The University of Miami, Department of Pathology is seeking a Senior Laboratory Information Systems Analyst to join an active team that is responsible for the maintenance and ongoing development of Sunquest Powerpath, CoPath and Sunquest Laboratory Information System (SQ LIS) databases and the Epic EMR, the systems that support the University of Miami’s patient care and research missions. The incumbent will report to the Director/Manager of Pathology Informatics and will be involved in all aspects of Laboratory Information Systems and related activities associated with the generation, presentation, and storage of laboratory data.
Accountabilities: Responsible for the design, build, troubleshooting, and maintenance of SQ Powerpath/CoPath existing functions, including but not limited to the following:
o Results reporting via interfaces to EMR’s on campus (EPIC, Meditech), and via our fax server for external clients.o Instrument interfaces (all automated analyzers, printers, scanners, peripherals).o Reference lab interfaces with both on campus and off campus reference labs.o SMART (specimen tracking and routing).o Billing file/interface troubleshooting Reporting interfaces to Department of Health/Tumor registries. With regard to the Epic EMR, the analyst will be expected to:
o Maintain lab related master files residing in Epic EMR (e.g. EAPs, LRRs, etc…).o Work the interface error queues from all laboratory interfaces that feed the Epic EMR. Takes on call for LIS support (as assigned).
Works on project priorities based on needs of the department and the affiliated hospitals.
Ensures completion of projects in a timely manner to comply with established deadlines. Actively works with relevant administrators to determine and or adjust project priorities.
Communicates and coordinates Laboratory Information System functionality with the Epic EMR systems teams and Lab Operations staff, including downtime procedures.
Actively plans for both software and hardware upgrades to keep systems up to date.
Provides proactive problem solving and determines the course of action to meet the needs of the staff and customers, while keeping goals within the framework of the hospital mission.
Maintains inspection readiness and is active in writing/reviewing procedures and processes.
Promotes and actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all persons.
Actively participates in, and has knowledge or, laboratory and hospital performance improvement activities, including resolution of customer service issues, evaluation of new equipment and/or procedures or methods, and works closely with operations in the development of new laboratory service lines and patient care locations.
Participates as a member in various committees for the department, school and/or hospital as needed.
Provides and acts on technical and support information related to the elements of laboratory testing.
Helps with lab IT expenditure control and capital expenditures for budgeting purposes. Coordinates orders of computer software and hardware.
Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years of work-related experience.
Sunquest Powerpath, CoPath and LIS is preferred.
3-5 years’ experience in Anatomical Laboratory Processes is preferred
Special consideration given to experience with (in descending order of importance): Sunquest Powerpath/CoPath.
EPIC (especially Orders, Order transmittal and related master files).
Copath (especially barcoding/tracking).
Demonstrated technical skills and aptitudes related to all computer related activities.
Mature judgment and the ability to handle confidential information, maintaining patient confidentiality as mandated by HIPAA.
Ability to work around infectious biological specimens, caustics, toxic chemicals and/or irritants appropriately and safely.
Demonstrated ability to make appropriate decisions in stressful situations.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects with varying priorities.
Demonstrated ability to communicate both verbally and in written form in a respectful and effective manner
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain appropriate peer relationships to facilitate organizational objectives.
Demonstrated ability to understand all laboratory related computer applications, and the ability to learn and apply new applications and programs.
Demonstrated knowledge of applicable regulatory standards, rules and guidelines such as HIPAA, JCAHO, OSHA, AABB, CAP, CLIA, The State of Florida, and related agencies
