**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.'s Military & Veterans Solutions Health Group is currently seeking a full-time Biomechanics Researcher to support human subjects' research protocols within the Naval Medical Center and Naval Health Research Center in San Diego, CA. The successful candidate will provide clinical support and data collection clinical appointments and research projects. The Biomechanics Researcher will report to the Program Manager, Principal Investigator (PI), and other designated study personnel to support human subjects' research programs. Specific research program topics include but are not limited to optimizing orthotic and prosthetic components for military women with limb salvage or amputation and improving performance of healthy and injured warfighters.
Responsibilities include:
Collect and process data using motion analysis measurement systems such for kinetic, kinematic, and EMG research studies.
Use laboratory systems such as Cortex or Visual 3D to provide data for analysis, interpretation, and presentation of findings.
Collect patient data on Lode bicycle ergometers using approved protocols for research studies and clinical suggestions aimed at performance enhancement.
Recruit and obtain informed consent from patients and study subjects using approved human subjects procedures and abiding by human research protection regulations.
Obtain detailed patient and research study subject records, abiding by human research protections regulations.
Interact with and collect biomechanics, physiology, and psychosocial data from human subjects, abiding by human research protection regulations.
Operate and maintain biomechanical laboratory equipment such as the Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment (CAREN) system, motion capture systems, EEG systems, EMG systems, Biodex, and portable gait analysis equipment.
Demonstrate statistical and database skills and have a background in technical writing in order to prepare research protocols, scientific presentations, and publications.
Collect, reduce, process, analyze, and report on 3D motion capture (optical and IMU), EEG, EMG, biomechanics, and other forms of data.
Update lab and research program calendars with data collection and other relevant information.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in kinesiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related scientific field from an accredited college or university. Four or more years of related experience is required. At least one year of experience in data collection and reduction in a gait analysis laboratory. At least one year of experience in a clinical research setting. At least one year of experience working with a military or veteran population.
Strong background in collection and processing of motion capture data with human subjects. Must be proficient with biomechanical testing equipment such as force plates and motion capture equipment (optical and/or IMU).
Experience manipulating and processing raw neurophysiological waveforms and datasets, including
electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG) and other sensor data is preferred.
Applicant must have programming experience, in at least one of the following languages: C, C , C#, JavaScript, or LUA.
Programming experience in Matlab and/or Simulink is required.
Experience in biomechanical modelling with Cortex and Visual3D is preferred.
Must be proficient in hardware related to large scale virtual reality systems.
This includes image generation, six degree of freedom motion platforms (ie CAREN), surround sound systems, and synchronizing inputs of additional digital and analog inputs.
Knowledge of networking systems and synchronization of systems in desired.
Strong technical writing background with an ability to write research proposals, human use protection protocols, technical reports, journal articles, and conference papers.
Solid background in biomechanical research methodology with experience in research methods and design, and statistical analysis in a research setting. Ability to interact positively and in a professional manner within a research-oriented environment.
Excellent critical thinking with problem-solving skills and an ability to work cooperatively in a team setting. Remain accessible and accountable at all times during work hours. Flexibility in responding to changing demands, timelines, and priorities. Ability to travel (both locally and internationally). Must be able to move freely or be stationary for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to work effectively in confined laboratory and clinical spaces and must be able to work effectively in shared office spaces.
