This position is in the Human Research Protection Office. This position is for the Medical School Campus.
Position is responsible for reviewing all proposed research for compliance with HIPAA and will also review expedited/exempt research including minimal risk continuing review for ethical and regulatory issues. Position will attend committee meetings to assist and educate committee members and make recommendations about privacy and risk issues. Will be responsible for letters to investigators whose proposals were reviewed as well as generating reports for meeting minutes. Will also review investigators’ responses to questions and concerns and determine whether the research is to be approved.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reviews all research proposals for HIPAA compliance.
Reviews minimal risk research in accordance with federal regulations.
Attends committee meetings to report recommendations and assists Committee member with protocol review.
Composes letters to investigators that incorporates complex, medical, scientific and regulatory language and concepts. Letters should inform investigators of any ethical or regulatory issues and should provide them with guidance and educational materials as needed.
Maintains a working knowledge of complex federal regulations to respond to investigators’/committee member’s inquires.
Counsels research faculty and their support staff in resolving problems with various regulatory issues and provides guidance in resolving the Committee’s questions and concerns.
Approves research for conduct in human subjects based on responses.
Maintains documentation of relevant interactions.
Generates reports for meeting minutes in compliance with federal regulations.
Bachelor’s degree is required.
Must have working knowledge of the federal regulations governing research, including the new HIPAA regulations.
3 –5 years experience in clinical research and/or IRB experience preferred.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to comprehend complex regulatory and ethical issues and conveys them to research investigators/committee members.
Concept thinking and the ability to apply knowledge to a variety of situations.
Possess word processing skills with ability to type 50-60 wpm.
The hiring range for this position is $49,296 - $64,084 annually.
