Duties & Responsibilities
The Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, is a member of the Mental Health team of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Health Services (HUHS), participates in the clinical management of the adult population through a collaborative relationship with the psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, other primary care clinicians, and the University community.
The scope of the role includes evaluation of patient care needs, participating in treatment plan development, implementation of the plan through the selection of service options, and evaluation of the plan through established outcome measures. Patient care is administered through practice guidelines, which include prescriptive guidelines as developed jointly with the psychiatrists, chiefs of service, Mental Health and Nursing and as approved by the Clinical Executive Committee. Service options based on individual needs include group, brief individual, cognitive-behavioral, psychoeducation for professional and lay persons, and psychopharmacology. Specific services provided include all the aforementioned and are determined by patient need and department policy.
In accordance with both department objectives and the mission of HUHS, the Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will participate in activities which facilitate and coordinate patient care through urgent care. After hours, pre- and post-hospitalizations, the maintenance of standards of care for in-house and community referrals, the participation of peer review, and education quality improvement activities are included.
Master's degree in Psychiatric Nursing or Master's degree with board certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing with a current APRN license in the state of Massachusetts. Minimum of 4 years' experience. State and federal DEA certificate. Current BLS. Eligible for prescription authority.
Experience in a psychiatric out-patient managed care model. Demonstrated work experience in the following areas: assessment/treatment of adolescents and adults; eating disorders; multicultural awareness; fluency in a foreign language (Chinese, Japanese, or Spanish preferred); student health issues; urgent care and crisis intervention; short-term focal, cognitive-behavioral, and group therapies; outreach and consultation in a university community.****
