This position requires extensive knowledge of different cell types and the ability to recognize subtle, negative, and atypical cell changes, the ability to do quiet, careful, prolonged work at a microscope, the ability to make difficult decisions in diagnosing numerous cases screened during the day, and the ability to work well with staff members while obtaining FNA materials.

A 4 year college degree is required for this position, as well as a 1 year certificate at an accredited school of cytotechnology, and passing the National Cytology Registry exam.
