In recent years several pharmaceutical companies have moved to India to perform clinical research and trials. This move can be attributed to a large population from which to choose patients, the cost-effectiveness of establishing and using medical facilities, and a wide range of diseases in the area.

Conducting clinical research trials in other parts of the developed world is much more expensive. As much as two-thirds of the cost of performing a clinical trial can be saved by performing it in India. Several companies specializing in pharmaceuticals have set up institutions for clinical research in India. The major pharmaceutical companies that have not yet done so are considering it. The Indian government is currently thinking of ways to improve the operating environment for clinical trials.

India’s economy is one of the strongest in the world and it is growing steadily. The country’s population is also very large, providing a ready market for the drugs developed at the clinical trial centers. The language of instruction in most the Indian colleges that provide personnel for clinical research jobs is English. This makes it easier for the major pharmaceutical companies to communicate effectively with employees.

It is easier to recruit clinical trial individuals in India than it is in the US. There are several information technology graduates in India that are efficient in data collection and analysis.

Clinical research jobs in the US are high-paying, making it expensive for pharmaceutical firms to conduct clinical trials here. Recruitment of individuals in the clinical trial procedures in the US is also very expensive. Though the US has all the facilities required to conduct clinical research and trials, it is very expensive.

To qualify for clinical research jobs in India you need to have a bachelor’s degree in medicine, pharmacy, life science, or bioscience. A minimum of two years experience is normally required, but because there is a shortage of qualified clinical researchers, it is not difficult to find a position even without the experience.

Clinical research specialists in India are normally involved in design and implementation of various clinical trials. There are those who are called biostatisticians, who carry out statistical analysis and programming. There are also clinical research managers who hold supervisory roles.

There is high demand for qualified clinical researchers in India due to the increasing attention pharmaceutical companies are putting on the area. The salary is therefore very high. The more experience and education one has, the more he or she will be paid, and there are a lot of opportunities for growth in the field.

Staff costs in India are comparatively low compared to the US. The government of India is also working very hard to create an enabling environment for the big pharmaceutical companies setting up there. Experts believe that clinical trials are faster and easier to carry out in India than in the US.
